Robotics Resources
There are a great number of sites on the Internet that are of interest to FIRST teams. Here are some of the best. Take a moment and look through some these informative sites.
The most obvious FIRST related site is the
organization's own:
www.usfirst.org. On this site, you
can find information about joining FIRST, this year's game, and
updates to the competition manual. Their site also tells about FIRST's
philosophy, the history of the competition, and FIRST's other robotics
programs.
A helpful resource for all teams is the
Chief Delphi Forums.
Team 47 from Pontiac Central High School runs this message board, where any FIRST
team member can post a question and get a near-instant response from the other
6000 members of the FIRST community who use the ChiefDelphi Forums.
Members can also upload photos to the site's FIRST
Picture Gallery.
For teams entered in the animation competition, one of the most
useful sites ever is the
FIRST CAD Library.
This site is a database of 3D models of most of the parts in the kit FIRST
provides, all free for use in animation and modeling.
Innovation
FIRST, the manufacturer of the robot
control system, has a site filled with useful technical information about the
robot controller and related electronics. Also related to programming the robot
is
Microchip's site. Microchip
manufactures the PIC chips at the heart of every team's robot controller, and
has lots of comprehensive information about the chips.
Another useful resource is the Western Region Robotics Forum, a group of committed FIRST teams that organizes many useful seminars and mock competitions in the San Francisco Bay Area. In 2002, our team and team 252 won the WRRF's California Games mock competition.
If you would like to submit another FIRST
resource to this list, please contact
us, as we are always looking for additional links to add!
