AChievments & awards

ARC's Team 852 has a strong list of achievements and awards throughout their short history. During the summer of 2001 Dr. Eugene Mizusawa, head of the Science Department at Athenian while working at NASA Ames, learned of the FIRST Robotics program. Athenian parent Dr. John Cavolowsky, who works at NASA Ames, also became aware of FIRST Robotics.

When education and technology combine in the FIRST Robotics program, the synergy is electrifying and Athenian students continue this electrifying effect. Please take a moment and read through Team 852's achievements. These accomplishments are listed chronologically below, from most recent to the team's early beginnings.

Academic Year:  2007/2008

2008 FIRST Regionals

The Athenian Robotics Collective went to the Davis/Sacramento Regional at UC davis. ARC was in an alliance with 1351 and 2144 and lost in the quaterfinals by two points. ARC won the GM Industrial Design Award for the third year in a row.

Academic Year:  2006/2007

2007 FIRST Regionals

The Athenian Robotics Collective went to both the Davis/Sacramento Regional and the Silicon Valley Regional. At both regionals ARC was a finalist. At the Davis/Sacramento Regional ARC once again on the GM Industrial Design Award.

2006 Achievement:
Phil Suslow, one of the four original Athenian students who formed Team 852, owns a company named Oznium that is a supplier of the 12" green FlowLighting cathodes that will light up the targets for the robots at the 2006 FIRST Robotics competition. Phil Suslow's personal note on his Oznium website states:

"In my junior year of H.S., my wonderful chemistry

teacher Eugene approached me about starting a robotics

competition at our school. We organized a team and
had a great first year. The experience was tremendous.
I learned how to work with machine tools, engineer moving

parts, electrical control systems, etc. And I improved my

             teamwork and leadership skills.."
